The Architecture of Ice Entropy: Synthetic & Sublime
Project type
Abstract
In this collection, ice is stripped of its seasonal context and reimagined as a series of complex, mineral-like structures. These macro captures move beyond the simple chill of winter to explore the violent and beautiful physics of solidifying water—whether formed in the heart of a winter storm or within the controlled environment of a deep freeze.
The work documents a world of kinetic energy frozen in time, highlighting a diverse anatomy of textures across two distinct worlds. In nature-made environments, the lens witnesses the organic chaos of the elements, where shifting temperatures and wind create jagged, unpredictable peaks and delicate internal veins. Conversely, the man-made captures observe the dense, crystalline structures and heavy, opaque layers born from artificial refrigeration, revealing the unique geometries of a forced freeze.
Throughout both the natural and the synthetic, the camera finds structural tension at the precise moment of internal failure, where pressure creates radial webs and canyons that look as durable as stone. These layers reveal a frozen history where ice takes on the appearance of metamorphic rock or brushed metal. This album serves as a visual archive of the thaw, capturing the rugged, temporary monuments that exist for only a moment before returning to a fluid state. It is a celebration of the small-scale drama hidden within the heart of the cold.
